Wilmington Police Department investigating second pedestrian fatality of Labor Day weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian early Sunday morning, marking the second pedestrian fatality of Labor Day weekend.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded around 2:46 a.m. to the 1200 block of S. 17th Street after receiving a report of a hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian.

The WPD say, preliminary information indicates a truck struck a 58-year-old man who was in the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
