Carolina Panthers, Bank of America launch program for students across the Carolinas
CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Panthers and Bank of America have launched a new community program aimed at reaching 10,000 students across North and South Carolina during its first year.
The program, called 3rd & Goal, focuses on three areas of childhood development: literacy, physical wellness and personal well-being.
More than 400 third-grade students from Title I schools across the Carolinas attended a field day at Bank of America Stadium to mark the launch. Panthers players and staff, Bank of America executives and local officials also attended.
The program’s three areas are:
- Read 20: Encourages students to read for 20 minutes each day through Panthers-themed activities and incentives.
- Play 60: Promotes at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day through school programs, including flag football equipment and educational resources.
- Feel 100: Focuses on personal well-being by helping students understand emotions, practice self-regulation and develop healthy social connections.
The Panthers and Bank of America plan to work with participating schools to track the program’s implementation and student engagement over three years.
The UNC Charlotte Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation will provide ongoing evaluation of the program.
Each participating school will also be able to select 15 third-grade students to attend an annual 3rd & Goal Field Day at Bank of America Stadium. Students will be recognized for achievements in literacy, physical activity and personal well-being.
