NCDEQ to mark five years of coastal resilience at New Bern workshop

NEW BERN, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality will host a workshop Thursday marking five years of the Resilient Coastal Communities Program.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Riverfront Convention Center in New Bern.

DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

The event will bring together coastal local governments, program partners, consultants and DEQ leadership to discuss the program’s work across 20 coastal counties.

Participants will review the program’s accomplishments and lessons learned, hear findings from an external evaluation and discuss ways to strengthen the program.

The workshop will also cover funding, technical assistance and other resources available to communities working on coastal resilience projects.
