Accidental cooking fire reported at Leland townhome; no injuries

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — An accidental cooking fire prompted an early-morning response to a Leland townhome Wednesday, according to the Town of Leland Fire Department.

The call came in at 3:47 a.m. in the 1300 block of Milkweed Drive.

The Leland Fire Department responded to the structure fire along with automatic aid partners. First-arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the front of a two-story townhome located in the middle of a row of homes.

Crews began attacking the fire and were able to quickly bring it under control, according to the department.

No one was injured.

Officials determined the fire was accidental and started while cooking.

The Leland Fire Department thanked the agencies that assisted with the response, along with Brunswick County Communications for providing updates to responding crews during the incident.
