DOJ awards more than $4.5 million in public safety grants across Eastern North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — The U.S. Department of Justice has distributed more than $4.5 million in grant funding to law enforcement agencies and community organizations across Eastern North Carolina to support crime prevention and public safety efforts.
The funding will support programs addressing internet crimes against children, domestic and sexual violence, and community-based violence intervention. It will also help law enforcement agencies purchase equipment, including patrol vehicles, in-car camera systems, ballistic helmets and shields, robotic vehicles and a mobile incident command post.
U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said the grants will help law enforcement agencies respond to crime while supporting programs designed to prevent violence.
The funding will go to eight recipients:
- North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation: $1,320,496
- Cumberland County: $994,593
- Onslow County: $682,553
