BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — With Hurricane Isaias expected to bring inclement weather to the Cape Fear region this weekend, two upcoming community events have been canceled or postponed.

The Town of Belville announced Friday that it has canceled this weekend’s Founders Day/America 250 Celebration due to expected rain and wind from the storm’s outer bands.

Town officials said that while Belville is not expected to take a direct hit from Isaias, Brunswick County could experience significant rainfall and strong winds, creating concerns about hazardous travel and localized flooding.

There will be no rain date for the Founders Day celebration.

Town officials said the safety of residents, visitors and staff remains their top priority.

Mayor Chuck Bost encouraged residents to prepare for the approaching storm.

“We encourage residents to prepare for the approaching storm by monitoring local news, weather forecasts, and official emergency management updates. Residents should also secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roadways, and take appropriate precautions as conditions develop,” Bost said.

The town plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027 and encourages residents to attend two upcoming community events: the Trunk or Treat Monster Mash on Friday, Oct. 23, and Belville’s Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Meanwhile, the Junior League of Wilmington has postponed its 18th annual Touch-A-Truck event due to the expected inclement weather.

The event has been rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
