WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington homeowner is dealing with significant property damage after a vehicle crashed through his yard and into the side of a neighboring house Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 7:42 p.m. on Maides Avenue, according to homeowner Abdull Akbar.

Akbar told WWAY he was about three blocks away when the crash happened and learned about it after receiving a call from his brother.

According to Akbar, the vehicle came from the parking lot of a neighboring apartment complex before knocking down several posts, crashing through his fence and damaging his yard.

“He hit the thing and he came down apartments. He knocked out all the posts in the apartments next door to me. Came through my side fence, and wiped out everything in my yard. Dug it up and ended up in the side of the house down the street.”

Akbar said the vehicle continued through his property before crashing into the side of another home.

He told WWAY that emergency medical personnel responded and transported the driver to a hospital. The driver’s condition has not been confirmed.

It is also unclear whether anyone else was injured.

WWAY has reached out to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to confirm details about the crash, including the identity of the driver and whether any charges have been filed.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.

WWAY will provide updates as more information becomes available.
