WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man is facing a death by distribution charge in connection with a fatal overdose investigated by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say detectives responded July 4 to a location on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington after a fatal overdose.

Investigators later identified Rondell Kimpatrick Davis as a suspect in connection with the death.

The sheriff’s office says Davis was formally charged Oct. 10 with death by distribution by sale. He is also charged with a pretrial release violation.

Davis is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $550,000 secured bond.

The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the person who died or additional details about the circumstances of the overdose.

The charges are allegations, and Davis is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
