Holden Beach Police issue fall safety reminders ahead of Halloween, Festival by the Sea

HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — As fall activities get underway at Holden Beach, the Holden Beach Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to take precautions to keep themselves and their property safe.
In a safety message released Thursday, Oct. 15, police highlighted several precautions ahead of the Festival by the Sea, Halloween and the seasonal departure of some property owners.
With the Festival by the Sea bringing increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic, police are encouraging drivers to slow down, remain alert and follow directions from officers and event personnel.
The department is also reminding residents and visitors to secure their belongings to help prevent theft.
Police recommend locking vehicles, removing keys and valuables, and securing bicycles, golf carts, garages and other outdoor property.
For seasonal residents preparing to leave Holden Beach, officers recommend checking that doors and windows are locked and outdoor items are secured.
Police also suggest arranging for someone to periodically check properties while owners are away.
With Halloween approaching, the department is urging drivers to watch for pedestrians and reduce their speed, particularly in areas where children may be walking.
Parents and children are encouraged to remain visible and use extra caution around roadways.
“The seasons may change, but our commitment to Holden Beach does not,” the department said in its message. “If you see us out on patrol, stop and say hello!”
The Holden Beach Police Department encourages everyone to remain mindful of safety while enjoying the community’s fall activities.
