Burgaw Autumn Fest canceled; Graveyard 5K and Boo-gaw race still on

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Burgaw has canceled its 2026 Autumn Fest due to the threat of inclement weather, but two scheduled races will still take place.

Town officials announced the cancellation Friday, Oct. 16, citing forecasts calling for rain and high winds during much of the event.

Burgaw Parks, Recreation and Tourism staff made the decision Friday morning after monitoring weather conditions for several days.

“We have closely monitored the forecast for several days; it has remained consistent, calling for rain and high winds through most of the event time frame. There are a lot of moving pieces involved with the event, so weather poses a huge disruption to our overall success and ability to provide a full experience,” said Cody Suggs, Burgaw Parks & Recreation Director.

Despite the festival’s cancellation, the annual Graveyard 5K and Boo-gaw 1-mile race will still be held on Fremont Street, beginning at 8 a.m.

Town officials thanked the community for its continued support and said they look forward to bringing Autumn Fest back in 2027.
