Wilmington’s Celebrate Downtown event rescheduled to Nov. 6

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington has rescheduled its Celebrate Downtown event, moving the free, family-friendly celebration from Friday, Oct. 30, to Friday, Nov. 6.
The new date was previously designated as the event’s rain date.
According to the city, the change comes as several other events are scheduled nearby on the original date. City staff are working to ensure attendees have an enjoyable experience.
Celebrate Downtown will take place at Riverfront Park from 5 to 8:30 p.m., giving residents an opportunity to learn about projects and investments shaping the future of downtown Wilmington.
The event follows the adoption of the Greater Downtown Plan, as the city begins planning for its implementation.
From 5 to 6:30 p.m., attendees can explore city project displays, meet staff, share their ideas and learn more about downtown initiatives.
Activities will include food trucks, Halloween treats, lawn games, music, police and fire vehicles, and activities for all ages. The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees will also offer tree giveaways.
The evening will feature a free outdoor screening of Hocus Pocus, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The movie was selected through a public vote.
Costumes are encouraged, and attendees are asked to bring blankets or low chairs measuring less than 9 inches high. Popcorn will be provided, and water refill stations and restrooms will be available on-site.
