Wilmington firefighters to hand out Halloween treats at all 10 fire stations

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Families looking for another place to trick-or-treat this Halloween can stop by any of Wilmington’s 10 fire stations for a sweet treat.
The Wilmington Fire Department is inviting families to visit its stations Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Firefighters will welcome trick-or-treaters and hand out candy during the holiday celebration.
The department reminds visitors not to park in front of fire station bay doors, as emergency vehicles may need to leave at any time.
Firefighters could also be responding to an emergency when families arrive. If a station is temporarily unattended, visitors are encouraged to wait or return later.
Halloween safety reminders
Along with welcoming trick-or-treaters, the Wilmington Fire Department is sharing safety tips to help families enjoy the holiday.
Residents decorating their homes are encouraged to use battery-operated candles or lights instead of open flames and keep decorations away from potential fire hazards.
For families heading out to trick-or-treat, firefighters recommend:
- Carrying a flashlight or glow stick to improve visibility.
- Wearing reflective clothing when possible.
- Staying on sidewalks and using crosswalks.
- Keeping groups together and watching for traffic.
- Using extra caution near streets and driveways.
The department is also reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert for children walking through neighborhoods.
Officials say taking a few simple precautions can help keep Halloween safe and enjoyable for everyone.
