Multiple Brunswick County fire departments respond to Shallotte fire

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Multiple fire departments responded to a fire in Brunswick County nearby where two separate fires broke out in the past few months.
The call came in around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday along Old Georgetown Road and Hale Swamp Road in Shallotte, with fire trucks refilling tanks at a nearby Dollar General, due to it being the closest water source to the fire.
Ocean isle Beach resident Leeanna Harrison was driving through the area when she first saw and heard the fire.
“I look over and all of Ike’s Pit and his equipment was on fire,” said Harrison. “All you hear is loud ‘bam’ and ‘booms’ from his gas tanks exploding.”
According to Harrison, Ike’s Pit is a well-known local business where residents can buy lumber, mulch, and other materials.
Exact details of how the fire started have not been revealed at this time.
The area is south of two other fires that broke out this year, with an October fire which burned along Ocean Isle Beach Road, and a wildfire which burned along Quarry Road in July.
