CFCC to conduct active shooter, mass casualty training exercises Nov. 14

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will conduct active shooter and mass casualty training exercises at two of its campuses later this month, and nearby residents may hear sounds resembling gunfire.
The exercises are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CFCC’s Union Station in downtown Wilmington and its North Campus.
The college will conduct the training in partnership with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
According to CFCC, the exercises will include simulated mass casualty incidents, active shooter scenarios and medical response training designed to prepare students and first responders for critical emergencies.
Residents may hear simulated gunfire
The active shooter simulation will take place at CFCC’s North Campus.
College officials say residents and businesses near the campus may hear sounds resembling gunfire during the exercise.
Activities at Union Station on the downtown Wilmington campus will take place inside the building.
Preparing for emergency situations
CFCC says the hands-on training is designed to improve emergency preparedness by giving students and first responders experience responding to realistic scenarios.
The exercises will focus on responding to mass casualty incidents, active shooter situations and medical emergencies.
The college says the simulations will provide participants with practical training to help prepare them for critical incidents.
The exercises are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
