A carnival-style celebration at the Museum of Coastal Carolina

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Ocean Isle Beach families gathered Saturday at the Museum of Coastal Carolina for its annual Family Day, a carnival-style event now in its tenth year.

The event took place both inside the museum and outside in the parking lot, offering a variety of coastal-themed games and activities. Guests took part in a jellyfish race, made shark tooth necklaces, and had the chance to get their face painted by local artist Vicki Paints.

Museum admission was reduced to $8 for the day, with children 12 and under receiving five free activity tickets. Additional tickets were available for purchase to enjoy activities like the fish fling and more.

Food vendors, including Sunset Slush, Tasty Tee’s Snack Shack, and Chocolate and S’more, were also onsite offering snacks and desserts for purchase.

Jamie Justice, Director of Programs and Exhibits at the museum, says the goal is to provide families with something different to do over the holiday weekend.

“Easter weekend is a big weekend for people to visit the island and so we just wanted to provide something fun and educational for them to come out and do, visit the museum, and give them the opportunity to do something new with the kids,” said Justice.

The event also featured a live snake exhibit and a meet-and-greet with a mermaid inside the museum.
