Accident victim recovering from horrible crash

A Wilmington man who was in a horrible motorcycle accident on Carolina Beach Road last year and wasn’t expected to live through that first night. It’s been four months, and miraculously, he’s doing just very well.

On October 10, David Tollefson was leaving a motorcycle contest when a SUV pulled out in front of him. Tollefson received 30 units of blood, but doctors didn’t expect him to survive. He suffered pneumonia, lung and kidney failure, a broken leg and needed a tracheotomy to breathe.

He’s now able to walk with a cane. He says the accident happened for a reason.

“There’s a reason, you know?” Tollefson said. “I’m not really a religious person, but there’s supposed to be something that I should be doing, I guess. I don’t know. It’ll come.”

Tollefson says some of the best therapy for him has been getting back on his bike. He isn’t back at work yet, but he’s recovering much faster than expected.
