Accused molester listed himself online as babysitter
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County man who was arrested last week for molesting a child previously listed himself on a babysitter search website. Cheyne Potrafka is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual offense, two counts of crimes against nature and one count of indecent liberties with a child, but before he was arrested, he listed a profile on the childcare search engine Care.com.
29-Year-old Chenye Potrafka lists himself on Care.com as” Good Male Role Model With Child Care And Medical Background Looking For Babysitting Or Full-Time ‘Manny’ Work.”
Potrafka then goes into detail about his experience with children. He says: “I realize that your child is the most precious thing in the world and I assure you that I will not fail the trust you place in me by allowing me to care for him/her/them when you can ‘t be there.”
He also says he is a professional clown and has tricks that usually impress children.
Potrafka was arrested Friday and faces multiple charges, including indecent liberties with a child. The Pender County Sheriff’s Office has not said what children were involved in the offenses, but Care.com says they do not believe it was any child that was placed in his care by the site.
In a statement, a Care.com spokesperson said, “This is a horrible situation. Mr. Potrafka’s profile has been closed and removed from our site. According to our records, there were no replies to his posting and he was not employed via our site. We have proactively reached out to local authorities to assist in any way we can.”
Potrafka is still in jail under a $1,050,000 secured bond. He is currently not listed on the North Carolina Registered Sex Offenders list which means this may be his first offense.
