After Christmas is a big time for donations
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The holidays are a time when many people think about giving back and spreading goodwill. Organizations like the Salvation Army get huge amounts of donations just after Christmas each year, but Cape Fear Region Commanding Officer Maj. Richard Watts says it’s important to remember there is need all year round.
The Army helps a lot of people in a lot of different ways each year and donations are what make that possible. Watts said that November and December are always the best months for new merchandise coming into the drop-off locations. He says the slowest months are during the summer when people are out of town.
For some, dinging the best deal on anything from Armani suits to diamond jewelry brings them into the store. For others, it’s giving back to the community or getting a tax write-off. For Head Cashier Manuel Kelley, every little bit helps, and he encourages people to bring in anything they don’t need.
“Instead of spring cleaning, it’s like an after Christmas cleaning,” Kelley said.
The Army asks that everyone remember those in need not only around the holidays, but every day.
