The rear-view mirror hangers are available at the WPD front desk and are being distributed to local childcare facilities, according to a release.

A WPD spokeswoman said in 2015, it’s estimated that 24 children under the age of six in the United States died after being left in a hot car. This year, 16 young children have died in a similar circumstance.

On May 25, an 8-month-old was left in his mother’s car all day after she took him to the doctor’s office. No charges were filed in the case.
