Air Force honor escorts remains of pregnant Marine home

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An honor escort from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base accompanied the remains of Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach to a funeral home.

The burned remains of the 20-year-old woman were found with those of her fetus earlier this month in a fire pit in the back yard of a Marine colleague’s house in Jacksonville (North
Carolina).

The colleague, Cpl. Cesar Laurean, is being sought on an indictment charging first-degree murder in Lauterbach’s death. Both were stationed at Camp Lejeune.

The search for Laurean continues.

The Patriot Guard Riders from Wright-Patterson provided the honor escort to the Westbrock Funeral Home in Dayton, where funeral arrangements were pending. Her hometown of Vandalia is just north of Dayton.

Lauterbach’s father is an Air Force Reserve master sergeant in the 87th Aerial Port Squadron, which is part of the 445th Airlift Wing at Wright-Patterson.
