Alan Cutler wins open Pender County Sheriff seat

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A new sheriff will soon take over in Pender County for the first time in 16 years.

Republican Alan Cutler beat Democrat Lawrence Fennell Tuesday with 65 percent of the vote.

Cutler, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, easily won a crowded GOP primary back in May.

He will succeed Carson Smith, who decided not to run again this year. Instead Smith ran for and won the 16th District seat in the NC House of Representatives.
