WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Aldi has moved one step closer to breaking ground on its first Wilmington store.

Plans have been submitted to the city for the German company’s first local store at the corner of South College and Waltmoor roads. The documents indicate the store, set to open in summer 2017, will be just shy of 20,000 square feet.

The company — which primarily sells discount, in-house grocery brands — first confirmed it was eyeing the Port City location in late March 2016.
