ONLY ON 3: Children back home with mom after Amber Alert
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It was a terrifying 12 hours for one Columbus County mother. Her two sons are back home tonight after she says their father abducted the last night triggering an Amber Alert. Investigators say the boys were taken at gunpoint from their home on Will Anderson Road after their dad bonded out of jail.
“Right now I’m happy that I’ve got my kids, but I’m still concerned, because he’s somewhere and he might gonna come back,” Anna Janowicz said.
Janowicz has been afraid for her safety before. Monday, she took out a protective order against D.B. White, her husband and father of her two boys. He’s the same man, detectives say, who abducted two-year-old Devian and three-year-old Jamal Wednesday night at gun point.
“It was very terrible, because you don’t know what’s going on with your kids or if you’re ever going to see them or not,” Janowicz said.
A detective with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says White bonded out of jail Wednesday on charges of delinquent child support. Hours later, around 10 p.m. investigators say White and another man went to the Janowicz’s home and took the two children.
“He came over here last night with his cousin,” Janowicz said. “Basically his cousin let him in of the house, and he just took my kids, took my cell phone, took my sister-in-law’s cell phone, and he just run off.”
Detectives say they were able to make phone contact with White and his accomplice and negotiate the safe return of the two boys. After being on the run for nearly 12 hours, the boys were back home with mom Thursday morning. Detectives say the incident is still under investigation to determine White’s charges, though there’s no word on where he is. Meanwhile, Janowicz says, she’s still afraid white will return.
“He’s still somewhere,” Janowicz said. “He might going to come back any time.”
