American Revolution traveling exhibit coming to Brunswick County library

Carolina Shores, NC (WWAY) — A traveling exhibit highlighting the people, places and events of the American Revolution will make a stop in Brunswick County next month as part of the nation’s upcoming America 250 commemoration.
The Brunswick Town Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution announced the American Revolution Experience will be on display Aug. 14-21 at the Southwest Brunswick Branch Library, located at 9400 Ocean Highway W. in Carolina Shores. The exhibit will be available during the library’s regular operating hours and is free to attend.
According to organizers, the exhibit explores stories from the Revolutionary War through a series of themed display panels and interactive touchscreen stations. Topics include “Choosing Sides,” “On the Front Lines,” and “Freedom or Slavery,” while digital features highlight historical figures, Revolutionary War sites and animated maps tracing the course of the conflict.
The exhibit was funded through the American Battlefield Protection Program Interpretation Grants and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. It debuted at DAR headquarters in 2023 and has since traveled to communities across the country in recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Organizers said southeastern North Carolina played a significant role in the American Revolution, citing events such as resistance to the Stamp Act at Brunswick Town, the Patriot victory at Moore’s Creek Bridge and other military actions throughout the region.
The exhibit is arriving in Brunswick County after a stop in Sampson County and will continue to Conway, South Carolina, following its local appearance.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical service organization founded in 1890 for women who can document direct lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot. The Brunswick Town Chapter has more than 180 members.
