America’s Boating Course returns to Wilmington in August
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron is inviting new and experienced boaters to sharpen their skills during its upcoming America’s Boating Course, scheduled for Aug. 15-16 in Wilmington.
The two-day course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day and is designed to provide participants with the knowledge needed to safely and confidently operate a boat on North Carolina waterways.
Saturday’s classroom instruction will take place at Eastwood Community Church, located at 702 Eastwood Road, while Sunday’s on-the-water session will be held through Wilmington Water Tours at 212 S. Water St.
The course covers a variety of boating topics, including:
- Boating safety fundamentals
- Navigation rules
- Required safety equipment
- Anchoring and docking techniques
- Local boating regulations
Participants who successfully complete the course will earn a North Carolina Boater Education Certificate, which satisfies the state’s boating education requirements. Graduates may also qualify for boating insurance discounts.
“Our goal is to help boaters enjoy the water safely and responsibly,” a spokesperson for the Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron said. “This course provides practical, real-world knowledge that benefits anyone operating a vessel.”
Registration costs $95 for the first participant and $55 for a second participant sharing a course book.
Officials say class size is limited and encourage those interested to register early.
