An estimated 5,000 gallons of waste spilled into the ocean at Kure Beach

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) – The Division of Water quality is reviewing a wastewater spill at Kure Beach.

A visitor spending the day on Pleasure Island contacted WWAY News after he noticed the spill flowing in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday.

The town issued a waste spill notification 24 hours after the spill happened. The news release said an estimated 5,000 gallons spilled at Fort Fisher Boulevard and H Avenue due to equipment failure. The untreated wastewater spilled into the Atlantic Ocean.
