Angie’s Amazing Race raises over $15,000 for breast cancer awareness

Bikers took to the streets of New Hanover County pretty in pink Sunday for a good cause. The Fourth Annual Angie’s Amazing Race started at Britt Motorsports on Market Street.

The event honors the memory of Angie Holiday, who died from breast cancer in 2006. It also raises breast cancer awareness, as well as money for the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

Organizers say breast cancer is a disease that touches everyone.

“It’s not just a women’s disease. We’ve had an employee, her husband has breast cancer,” said Debbie Britt. “You either know somebody that’s had it, or you’ve had it yourself. So please come out and help us fight the fight.”

More than 100 riders took part in the race, which was actually more of a scavenger hunt. Bikers were given a sheet of clues to follow that took them on a journey throughout the Wilmington area.

The event, emceed by WWAY’s Joe Mauceri, raised more than $15,000 for breast cancer research.
