Annual Black History Month art contest kicks off
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The third annual Black History Month art contest is kicking off in Wilmington just days ahead of Martin Luther King Day.
US Cellular and the Brigade Boys & Girls Club came together for the event on Thursday afternoon at the Brigade Boys & Girls Club.
US Cellular said students ages 6 – 18 are encouraged to create an original 8.5 x 11″ piece of artwork in tribute of influential African Americans both past and present.
“This is a way for them to learn about some of those people and a way to express themselves artistically through drawing,” US Cellular Agent Sales and Development Manager Steven Westbrook said.
From the original works of art, 10 finalists will be chosen by a panel from the Brigade Boys & Girls Club and will be displayed in local US Cellular stores.
Members of the community can vote on the artwork at the stories from February 1 – 28, 2018.
The first place winner will win a $250 gift card, second place will win a $150 gift card, and third place will win a $100 gift card.
The winners will be announced in early March.
