Another man charged with Tabor City murder, previous suspect released
TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — Another person has been charged with a murder in Tabor City. Meanwhile a man charged earlier this week has been released.
Tabor City Police Chief Donald Dowless says William Jerome Dixon is now charged with first-degree murder and common law robbery in the Sept. 2 death of Albert Grainger.
Dowless says investigators arrested Dixon last night hours after they released Devonate McCrea, who had been charged with the same crimes.
“When you have a horrific crime, where someone has died, you got people that’ll lie to you,” Dowless told WWAY by phone this afternoon.
He said investigators found out some of the people involved in the Grainger investigation were lying to protect someone else. As soon as they found that, he says they cleared and released McCrea around 4 p.m.
Two women are also still charged with common law robbery and first-degree murder in the case.
