Another workshop to discuss renovating the ‘Soda Pop District’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The City of Wilmington is holding another citizen workshop to get input on redeveloping a piece of property known as the Soda Pop District.
On Saturday, the city and local consulting firms will meet with local residents about how best to redevelop the old Coca-Cola bottling and distribution facility at North 10th and Princess Streets.
The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at the DC Virgo Preparatory Academy, located at 813 Nixon Street.
During this workshop, the public will have the opportunity to see conceptual designs developed from input received at the first meeting held in September. Attendees will then review and further refine the goals of the project.
The consulting team will make any necessary changes to the plan and designs, and generate a final report for city officials and the community. The city encourages nearby property owners, residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to attend.
The city says the Coca-Cola facility is one of the sites the city has identified as a potential Brownsfield site, which is an abandoned or under-used property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by possible environmental contaminants. Because Wilmington is growing quickly and only has about 13 percent of buildable land left for development, redeveloping these sites is a key tenet in the city comprehensive plan,
