Another arrest in robbery and rape in Columbus County

Another suspect is under arrest, connected to the robbery and rape of a 78-year-old Columbus County woman this weekend.

Clarence Gerald was arrested Tuesday and will likely be charged in association with the home break-ins on Sunday. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Department has already arrested 47-yr-old Arthur Leon Stanley of Nakina. He is likely facing first degree rape charges.

Stanley allegedly broke into 3 other homes before sexually assaulting the woman and kidnapping her daughter. The sheriff’s department is in the process of extraditing him from Horry County back to Columbus County.

“He usually has accomplices with him, and that’s one of the things we are looking into right now is to see if there are any other accomplices were involved in this situation,” said Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten.

Stanley’s court date has not been set as of yet.

The 78-year-old victim remains in intensive care at Loris Community Hospital, just over the South Carolina line.
