Another delay in Convention Center hotel deal

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Convention Center is slated to open this fall, but a plan to build a hotel next door is still up in the air. Last week the developer who proposed building a 14-story Embassy Suites next to the new convention center canceled his meeting with city officials.

John Q. Hammons is a developer based out of Springfield, MO. His company operates about 80 hotels nationwide, including three Embassy Suites in North Carolina.

According to project manager Steve Bridges, the city still hopes to meet with Hammons to finalize the deal.
