Are you afraid of the shark?

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You might fear the fin but there are some people trying to understand sharks better, like Chris Fischer.

The ocean expert understands the animals in a way few do and hopes to share his knowledge.

Fischer has led 17 world-wide expeditions promoting ocean science, and tagging sharks, so anyone can track them.

He says the amount of knowledge we’ve gained as a result is extraordinary.

“You know the white sharks are connecting us,” said Fischer, “We’re connected to Jacksonville, and Cape Cod, and Canada and the UK. All by a white shark.”

Fischer says he hopes to be able to take some of the fear out of sharks for folks and let enjoy them for the majestic creatures they are. He says it is easy to be afraid of the unknown but the more you know about sharks the more you can learn to love them.
