Area basketball phenom opts to shuffle off to Buffalo instead of UNCW

SAMPSON COUNTY (WWAY) — Over the last three years on our sports segments on WWAY we’ve mentioned Quate McKinzie’s name quite a bit. McKinzie is a 6-7 senior. He started his high school career at Pender High School, but he played his last two seasons at Harrells Christian Academy. He’ll finish out his senior season at Harrells as well.

McKinzie received offers from UNCW, Temple, Charlotte, Marshall, Buffalo and a few other schools. He’s rated the 40th best power high school forward in the nation and he announced his collegiate choice on Monday afternoon. Quate McKinzie will attend the University of Buffalo. “I am very excited to attend Buffalo.” McKinzie said shortly after making the announcement at Harrells Christian. “Over the summer me and coach Donyell Marshall we got pretty close along with coach Oats and when I took my visit I really liked the place. I liked the players and we connected. I got a good vibe there.”
