Area colleges receive national recognition
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three universities in North Carolina just received a unique federal grant and one of those schools is UNC Wilmington.
UNCW, Duke and North Carolina Central are partners in that $1 million dollar research grant. According to a UNCW news release, the grant aims to build a more diverse field of education researchers.
Over a span of five years, a total of 60 juniors and seniors will receive one-year research fellowships through the program. It will begin next summer and hopes to attract more minority students to pursue careers in research.
Just across town, CFCC is also making headlines being ranked as one of the Top 50 Best Value Community Colleges.
That ranking comes from Valuecolleges.com where almost 2,000 community colleges were examined. Of those two-year, public programs, CFCC came in at number 28. According to a press release, the list is based on graduation and transfer rates, mid-level salaries for graduates, and actual tuition.
The study also declared CFCC as one of the leading career and technical education institutions in the state.
