Area farmers market gets financial boost

Some people in Shallotte spent part of their Memorial Day weekend shopping.

The Shallotte Farmers Market is now into its third week. It recently received a grant for more $24,000 from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund.

The money will be used to build a new on-site facility.

”We’re going to use that money to build a building here on the site here at Riverside Park. It will house a bathroom facility, a storage area and miscellaneous storage areas for at vendors as well as the people who are setting up,” said manager Linda Herrick.

The market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
