Army Reservist to seek McIntyre’s congressional seat

RALEIGH (AP) — A veteran of the Iraq war wants to serve in Congress.

Will Breazeale is a 39-year-old Army Reservist who did three combat tours in Iraq. The White Lake resident says today he'll announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democrat Mike McIntyre.

Breazeale says he plans to make Democrats' handling of the war in Iraq a central theme while challenging McIntyre, who has represented the 7th District since 1996.

Breazeale says he switched from the Democratic Party because of its positions on Iraq and amnesty for illegal immigrants.

He favors leaving up to 70,000 soldiers in Iraq to keep the peace.

Breazeale previously ran for the school board in his hometown of Florence, South Carolina, and for the White Lake Town Council.
