Suspect in chase turned crash linked to shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Arrests have been made in the chase that ended in a rollover crash on Carolina Beach Road on Wednesday.

Troopers said it all started as a traffic stop for an equipment violation that afternoon on 17th Street near Medical Center Drive. A state trooper who is a member of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force tried to make the traffic stop. The driver, Jacquez Oshea Hill, 17, didn’t stop and tried to get away.

The chase ended in the parking lot of the Advance Auto Parts on Carolina Beach Road when the car flipped hitting a van leaving the parking lot. Troopers say Hill ran away from the crash but he was taken down by some good Samaritans and held until law enforcement took him into custody.

Troopers said Hill and a passenger, Taveon Quadeir Nixon, 17, are facing charges.

Hill was charged with felony speeding to elude, four counts of felonious hit and run involving serious bodily injury, possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver heroin.

Nixon was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver heroin.

Wilmington Police said Hill will be charged in connection with the shooting on Harbour Drive from last month.
