Artist collects gloves for art project
WILMINGTON — When things come in pairs, usually one is useless without the other. A local artist says that’s not the case for lost gloves.
Dixon Stetler is collecting found gloves for an art project that will be displayed at the Cameron Art Museum in the spring.
She has 26 drop-off sites throughout Wilmington and is accepting any and all gloves that people find lying around.
Stetler guesses she’ll need about 1,000 gloves for the final project and has about 150 so far.
Stetler said, “The thing about gloves, there’s something universal about gloves. It’s like the lost sock in the dryer. Everybody has an experience with losing a glove and once you lose a glove, the other one is redundant, you can’t do anything with it. What’s the point of protecting one hand? So you throw it away and buy more gloves and so this is my response to that.”
