Ashley High School student arrested after threatening photo posted on social media

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — As a new school week gets underway, another student is charged with making a false report concerning mass violence on an educational property.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer, a 15-year-old Ashley High School student posted a picture on social media this morning of a bookbag with an assault rifle next to it and the words ‘ready for school’ written on there.

Brewer said the sheriff’s office was made aware of the threat around 8:00 a.m.

An SRO took the teen into custody.
