Ashley band prepares for spring concert

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Music fills the air as Ashley High School’s bands get ready for their spring concerts. Ashley High School’s symphonic band will perform at Greenfield Amphitheater this weekend for the first time.

This year the honors ensemble received superior ratings, and is one of the largest bands in the county. The event will be jazz oriented with music by Samuel Hazo. The event is styled as pops in the park.

“It looks like it’s going to be a perfect day,” band director Robert Parker said. “People can come out in their shorts and T-shirts. Comfortable. Come out and have a nice relaxing evening with some really good music.”

The concert is Friday night at 7:30. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the gate. The proceeds support the Ashley High School marching band.

For tickets, call the band room at Ashley at (910) 790-2360 ext. 810 or e-mail robert.parker@nhcs.net.
