Assault suspect evades police
WILMINGTON — Wilmington police are looking for a man who led them on a chase last night.
Despite the use of a K-9 unit and helicopter, police were unable to catch Chris Woodard.
A woman made several calls to dispatch last night about domestic assault within a car.
It began on the 1300 block of Market Street.
Wilmington Police say Woodard let the woman out of the car at North Kerr and College before he was involved in a hit-and-run a little further down Market Street.
Police say a helicopter was following Woodard, but lost him when airport officials asked pilots to change their path.
WPD Officer Craig Melville said, “It’s frustrating to know we could have caught him, but we have to follow the rules of the air. The timing wasn’t good.”
Woodard has a history of domestic assault.
