Atleast 150K gallons of untreated wastewater spills into Shallotte River
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Public Utilities says hundreds of thousands of gallons of untreated wastewater has been discharged into the Shallotte River near Ocean Isle Beach.
The county says a failed bell joint caused a 14” sewer force main to malfunction near 600 Ocean Isle Beach Road.
The sanitary sewer discharge began at approximately 1:30 a.m. and was isolated at approximately 7:15 a.m. on July 8. The force main repair was completed and placed back into service at 10:40 a.m.
