Attention draws to a tardy Brian Berger at meeting with fellow GOP leaders
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s been nearly two weeks since New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger was arrested for a domestic dispute. Berger showed up 20 minutes late and avoided our cameras at the New Hanover County GOP’s monthly meeting. Fellow commissioners appeared to be in good spirits but the attention was obviously drawn to Berger.
“Well we’re just still looking into the situation. I know Mr. Berger has a hearing in July and we’ll see where that goes,” New Hanover County GOP Chair Rhonda Amoroso said.
Amoroso also said she and other GOP leaders are still supporting and praying for Berger. He was arrested June 10 for assault on a female and damage to personal property in an incident with his girlfriend, Heather Blaylock. If convicted of the assault charge, he could face up to 150 days in jail.
