Attorney: Mom of shooting victim did not threaten Vassey’s wife

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The attorney for a Southport police officer charged with shooting and killing a schizophrenic teen says the boy’s mother did not threaten the officer’s wife after all.

In May, attorney James Payne said Mary Wilsey, mother of Keith Vidal, threatened Bryon Vassey’s wife Victoria at the Brunswick County Courthouse.

Payne filed a motion requesting video from inside the courthouse. Payne said several witnesses identified the woman at Wilsey, but he now say they were wrong. Today he said the witnesses were wrong.

“We regret this error and apologize to Ms. Wilsey and her family for this misidentification and any unintended issues this may have caused,” Payne said in a statement.
