Attorney indicted for obstruction of justice

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Earlier today, a Columbus County Grand Jury indicted attorney Randy Lemay Cartrette on five counts of felony obstruction of justice.

According to the State Bureau of Investigation, Cartrette, who practiced law in Columbus County, is set to appear in Columbus County court on Monday, December 14.  They said Cartrette has additional pending cases and was previously scheduled to appear in court the same day.  Cartrette is currently represented by Columbus County attorney Harold Pope.

District Attorney Ernie Lee of the 4th Prosecutorial District has been assigned as a Special Prosecutor to handle this matter.

The SBI said today’s Grand Jury decision followed a complete and thorough investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation that focused on improperly obtaining Limited Driving Privileges through the Columbus County Court system.
