McCrae Dowless sentenced for social security fraud

A key figure in the investigation into ballot fraud in a North Carolina congressional race has been sentenced in a federal case involving Social Security benefits. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh sentenced Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr. of Bladenboro to six months in prison, and one year of supervised release.  He must also pay $8,595.10 in restitution.

NCDOT to rework two newly-installed medians on U.S. 74/76 in Columbus County

Two median locations that allowed left turns from U.S. 74/76 along a stretch in Columbus County have been closed to improve safety. NCDOT has decided to close these two median openings because certain large vehicles and traffic conditions in the opposite direction can make it difficult for some drivers to turn left, which causes an increased crash risk.

Pender County man arrested, charged with assault

22 year old Robert Dillon Rocha has been arrested by the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.  He was taken into custody near Moore Town Road in Rocky Point on Wednesday.

Man arrested in connection with Wilmington shooting near 12th St.

The U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested a man in connection with the recent shooting of a man near 12th Street in Wilmington. 43-year-old Anwar Idrissa Hall had been identified as a suspect by Wilmington Police.

Man arrested, charged with child sex offenses

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office in the arrest of 38 year old Chad Everette Sholar. He is charged with Statutory Sex Offense with a Child and Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Columbus County Schools revises mask mandate, masks now mandatory for students, staff and visitors

Columbus County Schools has changed course on its mask policy for the upcoming school year. All students, staff and visitors are required to wear a mask or face covering beginning Monday, August 23, 2021 in all indoor areas.

One injured in Wilmington shooting

Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital. It happened shortly after 3 pm Tuesday at the St. Andrews Reserve apartment complex. 

New Hanover High School confirming positive COVID-19 case within football program

A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed within New Hanover School's football program, according to Athletic Director Chris Haney and head coach Dylan Dimock.

Man arrested, facing robbery, assault, child abuse charges

A Riegelwood man is facing several charges in connection with an incident that happened in Wilmington over the weekend. 27-year-old Shaquann Lamar Shuford is charged with common law robbery, assault on a female, going armed to terror of people, and child abuse.
