Troopers investigate deadly Castle Hayne crash

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — One person is dead after an accident in Castle Hayne tonight.

Troopers on the scene say the call came in at 5:45 P.M. about the accident on Sidbury Road. They say the driver ran off the road, over-corrected, and hit the trees.

Investigators say the driver killed in the accident has been identified as 34-year old Patrick Wendorf. Troopers do say that they believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Danny Key of the state highway patrol told us, “Speed is a factor in this collision. He ran off the road, and tried to over-correct himself and ran off the road and struck trees.”

The scene is now clear and Sidbury Road is back open.
