Authorities say cycling advocate killed

APEX, N.C. — A cyclist who was an advocate for bicycling for recreation and as alternative transportation was killed after colliding with a vehicle Saturday.

WRAL-TV reported that Apex Police Capt. Ann Stephens said a preliminary investigation showed cyclist Bruce W. Rosar had made a left turn and crossed into the path of the vehicle.

Rosar, from Cary, had been director of the North Carolina Active Transportation Alliance. The collision took place at an intersection just after noon.

Stephens said the vehicle involved in the collision stopped at the scene. Rosar was taken to WakeMed.

Rosar was also a past president of the NC Bicycle Club, according to his Web site.
