Autocross club collects for Toys for Tots

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — The NC Region Sports Car Club of America Cape Fear Chapter spent Saturday racing cars and collecting toys.

The club has been collecting toys and monetary donations for Toys for Tots since 2012. Last year the organization raised nearly $300, which they used to buy toys to donate.

Coordinator John Byers says most of the toys end up being toy cars since club members love cars.

“This being a car event, everyone likes to bring in cars and it gets to be a little bit of a competition with everyone trying to out do each other which is kind of fun,” said Byers.

Byers said most of the group members have families and see it as a great way to give back to other families in the community.

The event, held at the CFCC North Campus, wrapped up the club’s 2015 autocross season.
